2. Antifouling Types
Hard antifouling: tough surface layer, biocide released over time — 1–2 years, ideal for fast boats. Self-polishing (SPC): dissolves slowly in water, always fresh active surface — 12–24 months, most common. Hybrid/Dual: combines hard and SPC advantages — 18–36 months. Silicone-based: no biocides, slippery surface — 2–3 years, eco-sensitive zones.
3. Application
Haul out and dry 48–72 hours. Clean with 150-bar pressure wash. Solvent degrease. Sand 80–120 grit. Apply 2–3 coats by roller or spray; measure DFT after each coat. Launch within 72 hours of final coat — active biocide evaporates if left longer.
