Varnish Renewal
DRYACHT Wood & Varnish Renewal Services
Wood details (capping rails, tables, door frames, decks) are what give your yacht its soul and character. However, wood is the most vulnerable material to UV and saltwater. At DRYACHT, we combine specialized wood craftsmanship with modern varnish technologies to protect and beautify your yacht's woodwork.
Why Restore Varnish?
Even perfect varnish loses elasticity over time due to UV. Micro-cracks allow water to reach the wood, causing blackening (fungus) and peeling. Neglected varnish leads to expensive wood replacement. DRYACHT manages this with proactive restoration.
Application Options
- Traditional High Gloss Varnish: For classic look types. 10-12 coats required. Uses Tung oil based varnishes (Epifanes) for deep amber tone.
- Two-Component Polyurethane: Harder, more scratch-resistant, higher UV resistance (Awlwood MA, International Perfection). Ideal for high-traffic areas.
- Synthetic/Oil Systems: Breathable impregnation (Teak Oil/Sealer) for a natural matte look and easier maintenance.
The DRYACHT Process
- Stripping: Complete removal of old varnish using heat guns and scrapers without damaging the wood.
- Bleaching: Restoring blackened wood to natural color using oxalic acid solutions.
- Sanding: Progressive sanding P80 to P320.
- Build Up: Applying 8-10 coats, sanding between every coat for mechanical adhesion and flatness.
- Topcoat: Dust-free final coat for glass-like finish.
Brands We Use
