Ceramic Coating
In this article we explain what yacht ceramic coating is, how it differs from wax and sealant, the application process and long-term maintenance.
1. What Is Ceramic Coating?
Nano ceramic coating is an ultra-thin, glass-like protective layer based on SiO₂ or TiO₂ nanoparticles that chemically bond to the surface. Unlike traditional wax, ceramic coating doesn't just sit on the surface — it integrates chemically. This creates revolutionary differences in protection duration and durability. In the marine environment, ceramic coating protects yacht paint from salt corrosion, UV fading, biofouling and mechanical scratches.

2. Ceramic vs Wax vs Sealant
Carnauba wax: 3–6 months, low hardness, DIY-friendly. Synthetic sealant: 6–12 months, medium hardness. Nano ceramic: 2–5 years, 9H hardness, very high UV/chemical resistance, professional application required. The key difference: ceramic coating chemically bonds, it doesn't merely adhere.
⚠ Warning: Defect Locking Risk
If paint correction is not performed before ceramic coating, existing swirl marks and scratches become permanently locked under the ceramic layer, removable only by complete ceramic removal.
3. Application Process
Critical preparation: two-stage wash → iron decontamination → clay bar → IPA panel wipe → paint correction. Then: choose ceramic product (Gyeon, Gtechniq, Ceramic Pro, IGL Kenzo) → apply thinly by microfibre applicator pad → wait flash time (1–5 mins) → buff off → no water contact for 24 hours → full cure in 7 days.
4. Conclusion
Yacht ceramic coating offers protection far beyond traditional methods. With its long lifespan, easy maintenance and high protective value, it is the top-level surface protection solution recommended by DR.YACHT.
