Fairing & Surface Correction

With pre-paint fairing filler and surface correction, we eliminate pits, scratches and wave errors to achieve a smooth, paint-ready surface.

In this article we explain why pre-paint fairing and surface correction is necessary, which products to use, application steps and guide coat technique.

1. Why Is Fairing Necessary?

Boat hulls can develop rough, pitted or wavy surfaces over time from impacts, repairs and maintenance. Paint cannot hide these defects — under a high-gloss topcoat they become even more visible. Fairing and surface correction eliminates all these errors before paint application.

2. Process

Surface prep → coarse filler (deep defects) → 80–120 sand → guide coat → correction filler → 120–220 sand → guide coat repeat until zero → HB primer → 220–320 sand. Guide coat: a thin layer of contrast powder/spray; remaining guide coat after sanding = high spot; clean areas = flush.

3. Conclusion

Fairing and surface correction is a critical preparation stage that directly determines paint application results. DR.YACHT achieves perfect pre-topcoat surface quality with guide-coat-assisted systematic surface correction.
